| Name: | Kurogane |
|---|
Character's full name (western style): Kurogane
Your character's series: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
What your character is going to be (ie. student, citizen--if student, what high school year/college status):
IN-DEPTH Background/personality info on your character, as well as any character development that occurs during the series (Include any changes to fit into the Avoria world~):
Kurogane is a very brash and arrogant man, but he has his fighting skills to back him up. Especially skilled with the sword, he has what most would consider a strict code when it comes to battle(“A man who points a weapon...should be prepared to die by one.”), and it was his rather vicious killing tendencies that got him sent to the time witch(Yuuko) to begin with. He’s actually quite astute and intelligent underneath his thug disguise, but his native insightfulness is often overpowered by his quick temper. In this way, and many others, he is Fai’s exact opposite.
Kurogane was the son of the lord of the province and a miko. His father was a great warrior who protected the land of Suwa, his mother the caster of a spell which prevented demons from entering. Very energetic and eager to please, he trained in the use of the kantana under his father’s supervision, determined to grow up and become just like him.
At around the time Kurogane had become a teenager, his mother developed tuberculosis. She would often collapse, coughing blood, and with his father almost always away fighting demons, the young boy would go through great lengths trying to ensure she was comfortable. One day, he arrived home to find his father seriously injured, katana shattered. Grabbing hold of the family’s heirloom, the katana Ginryuu, he once again set out to fight the demons, telling his son to protect his mother, and reminding him to always use his strength to protect the ones he loved. Despite her weakened condition, she insisted and was taken to Inoriba to pray for the defeat of the demons. Suddenly, just as Kurogane had arrived, a large sword had appeared out of a void, stabbing his mother and then disappearing. The blood flow was too heavy for him to stop, and thus she died, demons swarming the province the moment the kekkai broke. Mere moments later, Kurogane spotted his father’s arm, still gripping Giryuu tightly, in the mouth of one of the demons. As the arm was devoured, the katana fell to the ground, and Kurogane finally snapped. Taking up his father’s sword, he charged straight at the demons.
It was hours before Amaterasu, the Empress of Japan, arrived with her army. They found a still-shocked Kurogane, his mother’s body still in his arms. He quickly disposed of all the warriors she sent to restrain him, and she was about to try and calm him herself when her younger sister stopped her. Suggesting that she be the one to do it instead, Princess Tomoyo approached the young teenager, using a spell to keep him from attacking her, and whispering the words “Let’s let your mother sleep, shall we?” and closing the corpses’ eyes. This simple action was enough to snap Kurogane out of his blind range, and he broke down crying, finally collapsing from exhaustion.
He awoke in Shirasagi castle, body cleaned and hand’s bandaged, Tomoyo at his side. Because his father had no body to bury, he requested Ginryuu to be buried by his mother’s side instead, the Princess promising to have an exact reply of the kantana made. He became a ninja, killing any and all intruders on sight heartlessly; it was because of this that Princess Tomoyo placed a curse on him, that he would become weaker any time he killed someone, before sending him to Yuuko.
Now traveling alongside Syaoran, Fay, and Princess Sakura, he made it clear in the first world that the quest had nothing to do with him at all, though this seems to change as the series progresses and he becomes more protective of the rest of the group. This is shown when, after having sacrificed one of his eyes to keep Syaoran from losing his heart, Fai almost loses his life. Kurogane doesn’t allow him to die, however, forcing him to drink his blood mixed with that of Kamui’s, keeping the magician alive but turning him into a vampire in the process. Later on, after Sakura wins one of her two feather’s in a fighting tournament taking place in Infinity world, her mind traveling to the world of dreams and her body to Celes, Kurogane refuses to let Fai trade his eyesight for a portal there, instead telling Yuuko that they will each pay one fourth of the price.
